Annex House
Austin, Texas
This backyard house—a contemporary cottage—shares a generous corner lot with a landmark early Victorian house in East Austin. The new annex’s dark green stucco exterior and its position behind an old iron gate complement rather than detract from the historic structure. A stone patio and lush garden graciously connect the two buildings and provide a secluded outdoor room. Inside the two-story home, warm colors, art, artifacts and a framed view of the French Legation and downtown Austin beyond reinforce the comfortable coexistence of old and new that the house represents.
